Mama and Baby African Elephant Sculpture

Talented Kenyan carvers whittle this sweet sculpture of a mother elephant and her baby from jacaranda wood, finished with burned contours, cow bone tusks and a glossy clear coat. Because these sculptures are fully handmade, each elephant exhibits its own characteristics.

About the Artisans:

We work with an amazing co-op in Kenya, the Gikomba Wood Carving Cooperative, a group of woodcarvers of all ages who work in an open-air workshop in Nairobi. This environmentally-responsible group takes care to legally procure all types of African wood used in their products, and they are skilled at using all parts of the tree in their artwork.
